How to remove scratches from wood flooring

Something that can create a lot of distress for homeowners is the scratches that can occur in wood flooring. Homeowners become accustomed to their floors looking attractive and wooden floors are often seen as something that increases the value of a house, so, when something happens that detracts from the attractiveness and the value of the house, it can make them instantly anxious.

Luckily, there are a few simple things that you can do to help blend the scratch with the surrounding wood. A stain marker is something that you can buy at just about any hardware store, building supplies store or paint store.

Once you have the stain marker, shake it before you start using it so that the liquid inside the pen is well-blended. Do not apply the stain marker directly to the scratch as this could result in a dark line that will draw more attention to the scratch. Instead of applying it directly to the scratch, take a rag or paper towel and dab the stain marker into the material. After you have achieved a bit of build-up in the rag or towel, very slowly and methodically, start rubbing over some of the scratches. This allows you to control the amount of stain marker that gets rubbed into the scratch. Check the result of the application after a few seconds and apply more stain marker to the paper towel if it is needed.
